Admissions
Maple Leaf International School admits students of any nationality who have the ability to successfully complete the Ontario Curriculum. Our programme has been designed to meet the needs of students with a range of abilities that are within the scope of our existing services or programming. Previous school records and any assessments must be provided to the School prior to consideration for entry.
Assessment For Admission
The assessment process begins with a meeting with one of our school administrators, Principal or Vice-Principal, the parents/guardians and child.
Maple Leaf International School is dedicated to student success. We take into consideration the individual strengths and needs of each student. Due to variations in teaching styles and grading standards, new students are required to complete an entrance assessment. The assessment involves reading, writing, and mathematics which allows us to determine skill levels.
The child is assessed:
- To evaluate the student’s academic skill level and potential for success with the Ontario Curriculum
- To evaluate the student’s likelihood of successful integration both socially and behaviourally in the programme
- To assist parents and students in their adjustment to Maple Leaf International School

The assessment process is used to determine the likelihood of your child’s ability to be successful at Maple Leaf International School. This screening is very important, as the curriculum delivery and student assessment are quite different from the local Trinidadian system and other international programs. We use a student’s most recent school reports in conjunction with our academic assessment to determine whether or not we can accept a child.
Junior and Senior Kindergarten, Ages 4 – 5
For students entering Kindergarten, the assessment requires an interview with one of our Kindergarten teachers. We will schedule a time for parents and students to meet with one of our kindergarten teachers virtually.
Grade 1 and 2, Ages 6 – 7
For students entering Grades 1 and 2, an assessment will be completed by the student and guided by one of our teachers who will assess your child’s reading, reading comprehension, writing skills and mathematics skills.
Grades 3 to 12
For students entering Grades 3 to 12, the assessment is completed online, using the Canadian Achievement Test version 5 (CAT5). The CAT 5 is a standardized test which ranks a student’s academic skills in Reading, Writing and Mathematics relative to other Canadian children of the same age. A student does not need specific knowledge of Ontario or Canada. The length of the assessment is determined by the grade the student is entering.
Assessment Fee (non refundable):
Local Student TT$600.
Foreign Student TT$1000.
After the assessment is completed, the Admissions Team will conduct a thorough review of the child’s past school performance as well as their assessment result combined with the submitted documents i.e. report cards, transcripts and evaluation reports.
It is mandatory that ALL school reports as well as assessment and evaluation reports be disclosed and submitted. Failure to do so may negatively impact enrollment.
The parent(s) will be informed of the school’s decision and once the child is accepted, a Letter of Acceptance is offered. The signed Letter of Acceptance must be returned to the School, along with payment of Capital Fund (where applicable) and Tuition Fees. Full payment of fees and the return of a completed Annual Enrollment Agreement form secures the child’s space at Maple Leaf International School.
The Capital Fund is a one-time payment per family. The Capital Fund is waived for children entering Kindergarten.
