Our Grade 4 class recently had the opportunity to build an aquatic ecosystem with Mr. Llevan Ramharrack of @terrariumcrew.tt, as part of their Habitat and Animals unit in Science.

The students were guided on the steps and helped collect plants, place soil, sand and volcanic rocks, as well as filling the tank with water.

The class now has a self sustaining ecosystem, with fish, shrimp and even some snails! It was an enriching experience enjoyed by all.

Today, for the first time, Maple Leaf came together to recognise a Day of Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This day is in recognition of the hundreds of First Nations children who were taken from their families to live in residential schools.
The slogan "Every Child Matters" is a powerful movement that honours the victims and survivors of Indigenous residential and boarding schools in Canada.

September 30th is known as a Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
This day is also known as Orange Shirt Day in recognition of the hundreds of First Nations children who were taken from their families to live in residential schools. The significance of this day is discussed and taught in our social studies classrooms.

Today, students and staff are encouraged wear an orange shirt, which promotes awareness of the tragic history and impacts of the Indian residential school system in Canada.

Today we came together as part of something truly

Today we came together as part of something truly special and exciting. The Terry Fox Marathon of Hope has been going on for over 40 years, and we were so proud to carry forward his legacy of courage, determination and hope.

Terry faced challenges that most of us can only imagine, but he refused to let them stop him. With every step he inspired people to believe that a world without cancer is possible.

Every dollar raised brings us closer to achieving Terry’s dream. Terry started the Marathon of Hope. Together we can finish it!

Grade 11 student, Kai Lewis, proudly represented Trinidad and Tobago at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in El Salvador during the first week of September. Kai took on double duty, competing in both the U16 division (placing 97th out of 124) and the U18 division (placing 109th out of 139).
Kai and his teammate, Aiden Albada, brought T&T to a 49th-place national finish out of 56 teams, an impressive feat with just two surfers on a roster that allows up to 12!

Last week, Mrs. Alison de La Bastide, Certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Facilitator, joined us in the Innovation Studio to lead our Grades 9 and 10 students in “Goal-Setting Through Metaphor.”

Using LEGO® bricks, students were first asked to build a model representing what success means to them. After sharing their builds, they constructed a model depicting where they are right now, followed by one representing their future self. 🔮📖
The results were incredibly insightful, thought-provoking, and inspiring! 🧐

A big thank you to Mrs. de la Bastide for facilitating these empowering sessions. 👏🏼

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a workshop method that uses LEGO® bricks to spark creative thinking, problem-solving, team building, and strategic planning. Participants build their answers and tell the story behind their creation.
