Students enjoy the theatre
Students from JK to Grade 3, and Grades 7 & 8, excitedly patronized the local Baggasse production of Cinderella. Teachers anticipated curriculum connections ranging from Writing to Drama, and students were hopeful of entertainment. Both parties’ expectations were surpassed. The traditional story’s theme was carefully threaded throughout the cleverly & locally scripted play, which frequently touched on our Trinidadian heritage with the use of patois and references to our very own folklore character, Papa Bois. The youthful audience’s energy and interaction grew as the production progressed. Knowing the end was approaching was antagonizing for teachers. Finally, it was over. So, as the narrating character said, “Crick crack, monkey break my back, wire bend and the story end!” At least for now.
