Grade 9 studies Ecosystems
“In science SNC1D, we are currently creating model ecosystems to study their survival, and what factors are needed to have a sustainable ecosystem. The class split into small groups, and each group turned 2L soda bottles into small habitats for fish now hanging in the library to get sunlight. In our bottle ecosystem there are aquatic and terrestrial areas, the aquatic contains items such as rocks, stale water, sand, dirt, snails, and anything else we though necessary to keep the fish alive. The terrestrial ecosystem has dirt, worms, insects, dead leaves, rocks and other substances we thought would help plants to grow. The idea behind this project is to have an ecosystem connecting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and having them work as one. Also to have the planted seeds grow and fish survive through this experiment.” – A. Thomson
