Banned Books Week at Maple Leaf
Banned Books Week – September 27 – October 3, 2020
This annual event celebrates the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
To mark the event, Mrs. Fakoory will be hosting an activity for students in Grade 6 to 12. Students are invited to select a book from the list provided. They may borrow the book from Maple Leaf library on September 23rd or 30th (8:00am – 3:00pm) – first come, first served OR they can download/purchase the book on their own. A selfie with the banned book must be emailed to Mrs. Fakoory by Friday, October 2nd. The book must be read before October 31st and students must return the completed Google Slide to Mrs. Fakoory, which will be sent to them once she receives the selfie. Details are below.
