No Red Ink (Grades 6 and up; ages 11 and up). No Red Ink is a website dedicated to helping students develop their grammar and writing skills. It is free to sign up and if you want premium features there is a cost attached. You can have a class profile on the site and give your students access. No Red Ink can track the progress and adapt exercises to each individual student learning needs. There are also resources and daily prompts available especially with the global school closures. Turtle Diary (Grades K to 5; ages 5 to 10) Turtle Diary is an interactive website that provides not only educational games for children in Language and Math, but also has worksheets, quizzes, videos and teaching tools. This site also gives you the option to add your students names to track progress through the various activities and parents can also use it at home as well. Prodigy Math (Grades 1-6; ages 7 to 12) Prodigy Math offers a games based learning platform designed to help develop the math skills of children. It is aligned to the Ontario Math curriculum in each of the five major strands. It is free to sign up (memberships are available) and prodigy can equip teachers with progress reports etc. There is also the opportunity for parents to join as well for them to monitor their child’s progress in math. https://www.prodigygame.
Reading Web Resources
International Children’s Library (Grades 2 and up; ages 7+). Offers free access to children’s books from over 42 countries. You can read for free without registering or register to create your own personal bookshelf, bookmark your place in a particular book or select the language in which you would like to read. http://en.childrenslibrary.
Children’s Storybooks Online (Grades JK to 4; ages 3 to 8). A collection of illustrated children’s picture books for all ages. Some include audio. The site also offers phonics help, quizzes, interactive colouring pages, educational puzzles and games.
Oxford Owl For Home (Grades JK to 5; ages 3 to 11).This site is produced by Oxford University Press in the UK. And it offers a free ebook collection for ages 3 to 11 years of age. The ebooks are interactive, with pictures, sound and various activities attached to each one. You will be required to join the site for access, either as a teacher or parent. It is free to join. Oxford Owl also has other activities on the site to help with Math and Language.
